FRAGILE BEAUTY: This 3 ft. x 4 ft. portrait of Marilyn was created with one inch butterflies cut from fashion magazines. The intent was to emphasize the fragility of those things our culture considers to be beautiful. A handful of the butterflies are three dimensional with the wings rising from the canvas as though they are about to take off, emphasizing the temporal quality of beauty as well as life. This piece recently won People's Choice at the Tyler Main Street Gallery's show Things with Wings. It has a glossy finish.
BRUCE LEE: This 3 ft. x 4 ft. canvas was created with text from Bruce Lee's instructional book, The Tao of Jeet Kune Do and a biography written by his wife Linda. The edges are filled with images of Lee. This is one of only a few remaining pieces in my series titled, "I Just Don't Read Like I Used To," in which I create iconic characters from the text of their books.
FOUR STRINGS: This 3 ft. x 4 ft. lush oil painting is in the cubist style made famous by artists such as Picasso. With a limited color palette and lots of movement, this heavily textured piece is sealed with a semi-gloss finish.
USE YOUR WORDS: This 3 ft. x 3 ft. collage self portrait was created with words and images cut from fashion magazines. The title is a play on the phrase often used in psycho-babble, encouraging people to express themselves verbally instead of acting out. Note it is signed with a blue shark, a tribute to my nickname, The Art Shark, which was bestowed on me by my fellow artists because they say I never rest and make art nonstop!
