What I have learned today is that it takes very little information to form a portrait, and it is interesting to boil a subject down to his or her most obvious parts. All in all, I am reminded about Albert Einstein's theories regarding relativity, with regard to how it goes fast and slow with respect to circumstance. He says, "When you are courting a nice girl, an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder, a second seems like an hour. That's relativity."
From today's sketchbook. I set my timer and allowed myself only one minute to do this cubist version of Jonathan Swift. (Inspiration on the left.) Something in me has clicked into place! I think because I spend so much time on many of my pieces, the immediacy of these sketches is supremely satisfying. By the way, I am on the 175th drawing which will be adhered to my mannequin...
