In order to organize myself, I have a very involved calendar on which I prioritize and plan the things I need to accomplish each month, week and day. And since I have several painting commissions and projects in progress, I have made myself a timetable for these as well. This seems the best way to maximize my efficiency.
All of this organization and efficiency has made me pause, however, and consider my approach to writing! This is, of course, NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month). If you are not familiar with this project, click here to read more.
I make the mistake sometimes of thinking of the writing process as somewhat delicate. By that I mean that I try not to put either boundaries or expectations on it. I try to just let it happen. I don't do this with other aspects of my life though. I make things happen. I organize and prioritize. But I also remind myself that thinking about doing something is not actually doing it!
So, for the month of November, or what remains of it, I am going to write. I am going to organize, prioritize, and sort. And I am going to write. My self imposed assignment for today is to consider my surroundings and how they impact or do not impact my life--a topic naturally generated by the process of moving. I am contemplating my mental landscape and contrasting it to my physical surround. And I am giving myself the deadline of Wednesday's writing group to have something ready to share. It may be a poem or a paragraph, but I will have it ready.
I challenge everyone in our group to have something ready to share. If you are not writing, you are probably reading. Bring something.
And for those readers who are not in the group? Feel free to share your comments through the blog. We will respond. And we will consider and appreciate your attention.
Until Wednesday.
